Every spring the best books in Catholic publishing are celebrated in the Excellence in Publishing Awards from the Association of Catholic Publishers. This year, The New York Times best-selling Loyola Press book Dear Pope Francis: The Pope Answers Letters from Children Around the World was awarded first place in the Children’s category. The Spanish edition, Querido Papa Francisco, was awarded first place in the Spanish language category. The Book of the Year is selected from the first place winners in 11 categories.
“We are deeply honored to have published this collection of heartfelt letters from children with the Holy Father’s direct and personal responses to each,” said Joellyn Cicciarelli, Loyola Press's president. “We hope that this recognition will help spread Pope Francis’ message of joy, hope, and love to more children and families around the world.”
The Catholic Press Association's (CPA) 2017 Book Awards also recognized Dear Pope Francis as the number one children's book and the number one book associated with Pope Francis published in 2016. Seven other Loyola Press titles received awards across eight CPA categories, including four first-place award winners.
Dear Pope Francis has appeared on best seller lists from the The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly, and it has been published in 19 languages in more than 50 countries. The book consists of the pope’s personal responses to 30 hand-written letters and drawings from children ages six to 13 from every region of the globe.
Dear Pope Francis is a book that transcends age and religion and will leave readers feeling hopeful and inspired.
