November 13, 2019 — The Creighton Prep Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to name Fr. Matthew Spotts, SJ, as the school’s 34th president. Father Spotts comes to Creighton Prep with experience and insights gained from a wide variety of missions with the Society of Jesus. Currently, he provides sacramental and pastoral ministry at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, the nation’s largest Jesuit secondary school, and serves as the associate pastor at a local parish. He is completing a graduate degree in education.
Board Chair, Ryan Zabroski '96 said, “We are fortunate to have someone as accomplished as Fr. Spotts join Creighton Prep.” Three years as a leader, teacher, and coach at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis ignited a calling to serve in secondary education. Father Spotts has an impressive academic record: a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University, a master’s degree from Saint Louis University, and a Master of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University.
Upon learning of his selection, Fr. Spotts remarked, “Creighton Prep enjoys a well-deserved reputation for excellence. It will be a great honor to be a part of taking that tradition forward and finding ever deeper ways to carry out Prep’s mission for the greater glory of God.”
The search for a new president began in May of 2019 when the Board of Trustees assembled a committee led by Board Chair Emeritus Jeff Royal '94. The group worked closely with USA Midwest Jesuits Provincial Fr. Brian Paulson, SJ, and his staff to identify qualified candidates from across the nation. Additionally, a presidential research survey sent to the entire Prep community provided valuable insights that helped shape the selection process.

Fr. Spotts met with members of the Board of Trustees in multiple settings and occasions during the interview process. He also visited the school’s campus several times, meeting students, faculty, and staff in addition to the Board of Regents.
“After meeting Fr. Spotts, it was easy to see that his experience and energy will ensure that Prep flourishes well into the future,” said current President Fr. Tom Neitzke, SJ.
Fr. Neitzke will be leaving Prep at the end of this school year, taking an assignment outside of Omaha. For the 2020-2021 school year, Assistant to the President and former Principal John Naatz will act as interim president. His nearly 37 years of experience with Prep and its operations will help ensure a smooth transition. [Source: Creighton Prep]
