I am Joseph Ouma, a 2009 graduate of St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School. Currently
I work with Novacom Systems Limited which is an IT firm that provides solutions
to hospitality industries (Hotels and Restaurants) both in Kenya and in other
East African countries.
After graduating with a Diploma in Information Technology at Technical University of Kenya, I thought getting a job would be a walk in the park, but this wasn’t the case. There were so many challenges ranging from lack of finances, proper interview, communication and professional skills. These hindered my competitiveness in the job market. I had applied for and attended several job interviews with no success of securing a job.
Then came the Mustard Seed Program! I appreciate the program and its founder, Mr. Chris O’Hare, for turning around my professional life. Joining this program provided me with a chance to learn how to do a well-documented and presentable CV. It provided me with the basic training on how to go through job interviews and equipped me with training materials and resources required after interviews and with strategies of job retention.
The program also offered me some financial support during my first month on the job in the form of a loan to help me stabilize. It continues to teach me and others even as it upholds and promotes the great motto of St. Aloysius; “Learn, Love and Serve” and “Being Men and Women for Others”. I hail this program and am optimistic that it will continue touching many lives of youth who are very thirsty in looking for employment after graduating from higher institutions of learning and are handicapped on basic knowledge on job applications, handling interviews and keeping the job.
