Faith has been the center of my life from before being born. My parents and their families’ lives all centered on faith.
Family gatherings and celebrations and accomplishments seemed to focus on the importance of religion. The people I looked up to most in my childhood as heroes and models were people of faith. Faith in God has always been such an anchor for me that it’s hard to imagine life based on someone else. God has been a constant in my life, giving meaning and direction every step along the way.

Joining the Jesuits and embracing religious life was a natural way for me to pursue my relationship with Jesus. Through people’s charity and generosity I have been given the freedom to pray daily and this has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I humbly thank God for allowing me to preach His word and to minister His presence everywhere I’ve served: two South Dakota reservations, Mankato, Omaha, Milwaukee and the Dominican Republic. I also thank God for the enrichment of my life these past 25 years through the Latino community.
God has blessed me with many heroes in my journey towards Him and now in my 50th year, Pope Francis has appeared like a miracle as a new hero in my life. Through his openness, energy, simplicity and optimism, he is inspiring me in continuing to fulfill my ordination dream of together building a world richer in love and faith.
